Cool Video of a Sound Resonance Experiment
An awesome video of a sound resonance experiment. By raising the wavelength of the sound beautiful patterns (and more complex) appear in the powder. Just another demonstration that physics can be beautiful
Also check out this Fire Spectroscope Video. It's also awesome.

How this works (if somebody cares ) "The standing waves which are producing the patterns in the powder only occur at the resonant frequency of the plate, and its harmonics. As the frequency is tuned to higher harmonics, the pattern becomes more complex because more wavelengths, and therefore more nodes and anti-nodes, fit on the plate because as the frequency increases, wavelength decreases. You can also hear the sound intensify when it reaches a harmonic."

Just a thought
Woah.
I have a degree in Math, one in Physics, and one in history.
I really liked it.
My dog, however, did not like it.
She's just peed on the stack an.@i&5se#!+=ihr
I don't get it
Does this work with any object with a flat surface that you can get to it's resonant frequency? For example, if I had some sheet metal, could I do this?
Do you know what material was used in the video? Did they use anything in particular for the powder? I figure a light dust like powdered sugar should work fine?
